Blazers tame Tigers 5-2 at home

KAMLOOPS — Rudolfs Balcers scored two goals in 21 seconds in the third period to help the Blazers to a 5-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers at home on Friday night.

The first period was scoreless as the Blazers outshot the Tigers 14-10 in the first period. 

Deven Sideroff scored the game’s first goal 5:54 into the second period. A puck came to him off the rush and he beat goaltender Duncan McGovern on the blocker side for a 1-0 lead. 

Collin Shirley had an open net for the games second goal. Nick Chyzowski’s second effort on his own rebound gave Shirley the open net at the side of the net for a 2-0 lead. 

The Blazers took a 2-0 lead into the third period. 

Ondrej Vala scored a goal on a blast from the point 7:03 into the third period for a 3-0 lead. 

Dylan MacPherson’s blast in the middle of the third period cut the Blazers lead to 3-1. 

Rudolfs Balcers replied seven seconds after MacPherson’s goal on a terrific set up by Deven Sideroff to make it 4-1. 

Balcers added another goal 21 seconds later to make it 5-1. 

The Tigers added a late power play goal to make it a 5-2 final. The Blazers were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Tigers finished 1-for-2. 

Connor Ingram stopped 36 of 38 shots for the win, while Duncan McGovern stopped 38 of 43 shots. 

The Blazers will close out the week with a game in Prince George tomorrow night.
