KAMLOOPS —  RCMP are continuing to look for the vehicle involved in a hit and run on Pacific Way in Aberdeen that killed a 16-year old girl.

RCMP Cpl. Jodie Shelkie says at 6:45 p.m. Friday evening, police responded to a report of a hit and run on Pacific Way.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year old girl had succumbed to injuries received after being struck by a vehicle.

After looking at numerous residential surveillance videos, police are interested in speaking with the owner and/or driver of a dark-coloured Jeep-style vehicle. (See attached photos and video.) This SUV was in the area at the time of the hit and run. (Please note: the vehicle of interest is the vehicle traveling on the street, not either the vehicles parked in driveways.)

“It is always tragic when a young person dies, but in this case, where Jennifer died the day before her 17th birthday, it is especially heart-breaking. That is why it is vital that we speak to the driver of this vehicle,” stated Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. “We are asking the public to contact the Kamloops RCMP if they know who this vehicle might belong to or who the driver was.”

Pacific Way had been closed for a time in both directions while police attended the scene.

People on social media are identifying the victim as Jenn Gatey and say today would have been her birthday.
