North Shore hoarder loses legal fight

KAMLOOPS — A BC Supreme Court judge has sided with the City of Kamloops after it was sued by a North Shore hoarder over action it took in 2014 to clean up her dilapidated home.

Lynda Watt claimed the city didn’t give her proper notice before imposing a remediation of her home at 356 McGowan Avenue.

Watt also claimed that the city stole some of her personal belongings.

The home had become a haven for dozens of pigeons, and neighbours complained that it reeked of feces and garbage, and was an attractant for rodents.

In a decision released this week, Justice Hope Hyslop said the city did, in fact, give Watt due process before moving in to clean up her property.

Hyslop also said there was no evidence presented that the city stole Watt’s personal belongings.
