Growing the cause: Movember is now Growvember

KAMLOOPS — After raising awareness for breast cancer in October, the Canadian Cancer Society has now turned its attention to men’s illnesses such as prostate and testicular cancer.

What used to be known as Movember is now called Growvember, and Annual Giving Coordinator Jenn Harbaruk says men are encouraged to simply let it grow.

“We are going all hairy. We are encouraging men to grow their hair anywhere, grow it long on your head, grow a beard, grow a mustache. We are just creating a bigger awareness around the month of November,” said Harbaruk.

Harbaruk says in addition to raising funds, this month is important to raise awareness for men to get regular checkups.

She adds men are usually reluctant to discuss the health of their “equipment,” but this month is the best time to talk about it.
