KAMLOOPS — A 61 year old Barriere man has been charged with sexual assualt.

RCMP issued a release confirming the charge against Byung Lee.

Lee appeared in Kamloops court yesterday, but has been released from custody bound by a number of conditions.

A family member of the victim told CFJC Today Lee allegedly sexually assaulted a 96 year old woman in her own home.

Barriere Mayor Virginia Smith said news of the alleged sexual assault is shocking.

"It's just sort of unbelievable," Smith said, "but in all honesty we can't let one person define our community and our support is with the 96 year old woman that this happened to and the community is rallying behind her."

Police say they believe the incident to be isolated and public safety is not at risk.
