KAMLOOPS — Forestry firefighters have a late-season blaze to battle this afternoon.

A single vehicle crash off Criss Creek Road started the grass fire near Tranquille on the Lake.

Fire Information Officer Max Birkner says the fire is about 40 square metres in size, and five firefighters are being sent to snuff the flames.

Birkner notes, even though it is late in the season, grasses are still dry enough to ignite.

"The fire danger rating in the Kamloops FIre Centre is low to moderate right now, but as you can see, it's still hot enough out there and the grass can absolutely catch fire," said Birkner.

There is no word if the crash caused any injuries.
