REVELSTOKE —  It’s the toughest stretch of highway to build on in the country. But Transportation Minister Todd Stone says the government is commited to chipping away at the 4-laning of the Trans Canada Highway from Kamloops to the Alberta border.

Stone says the province is working with the feds to prioritize every stretch of the 200 kilometers of highway left to four lane, but he says it’s not easy.

As as example, one of the toughest stretches will be a four-kilometer stretch in the Kicking Horse Canyon between Revelstoke and Golden which Stone says will require a huge commitment….

“That project” says Stone, “will be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, because it’s so treacherous. It has a steep canyon on one side, and a mountain on the other side. But we’re working as quickly as we can to complete engineering and design work for that project and a number of others.”
