Ministry to examine School District needs

KAMLOOPS —  It appears publicity over the need to examine schools in this School District is getting the provincial attention it needs.

School District 73 Chair Denise Harper and other trustees have been pushing hard for the province to understand how serious the situation is in the Kamloops area. A replacement for South Kamloops Secondary, a new school in Pineview Valley, an addition to Westmount and additional space in Valleyview Secondary are all priorities.

Harper met with MLA Todd Stone last week on the matter, and Stone says he will lobby for funding for these projects. Meanwhile, Education Minister Mike Bernier says he’s aware of the priorities in Kamloops and says they are high on his list of priorities.

A representative of the ministry involved in capital investments is expected to come to Kamloops in the next few weeks to talk to local officials about some of the needs in this District.
