ROYAL VISIT CONTINUES IN BRITISH COLUMBIA TODAY:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit British Columbia’s central coast today as they continue their trip to the province. Prince William and Kate will officially announce that the Great Bear Rainforest will be part of the Queens Commonwealth Canopy. It’s part of a forest conservation project that was launched last year by Commonwealth countries to raise awareness and protect such areas.

IT’S ON TO ROUND TWO IN AUTO TALKS: 

Fiat-Chrysler sits down with Unifor today as the next round of negotiations with the Detroit Three gets underway.  Workers at General Motors voted to accept a new contract on Sunday, and the union intends to use it as a basis for contracts with Fiat-Chrysler and Ford. Unifor president Jerry Dias hailed the GM deal as “historic” — and the best the union has struck with one of the auto giants in a decade.

MONTREAL PIT BULL OWNERS AND ADVOCATES BRACE FOR BAN

Montreal’s city council is expected to vote tonight on a contentious bylaw that would ban new pit bulls from the city and place strict rules on existing dogs. It follows a spate of dog attacks in Montreal, including one that killed a 55 year old woman in her backyard. In the lead up to the vote advocates for the breed have been working hard to try to convince politicians and the public that their pets don’t pose an inherent risk.

PLUMMER TO HONOUR PINSENT WITH STRATFORD AWARD

Two Canadian acting icons will share a stage in Toronto this evening as Christopher Plummer presents Gordon Pinsent with this year’s Stratford Festival Legacy Award. The two are old friends, and Pinsent, in fact, presented Plummer with the festival’s inaugural Legacy award in 2011. The 86-year-old Pinsent joined the festival company back in 1962. Since then he’s added nearly 150 film and TV credits to his acclaimed resume.  He’s also the subject of the new documentary “The River of My Dreams: A Portrait of Gordon Pinsent.”
