KAMLOOPS — Not every professional trying to fight addictions in Kamloops is enthusiastic about the possibility of supervised injection sites being set up in the city.

Dr. Mandy Manak is the medical director of the Interior Chemical Dependency Office.

She says supervised consumption sites only serve about 2-3 per cent of addicted patients in the community.

“These services are not inexpensive, and in order to have those services for the maybe 2-3 per cent that really would benefit, we have to take that money away from somewhere else,” Manak explained. “The question is ‘where do we take that away from?,’ because it’s not a bottomless pit.”
