Jury finds Lumby man guilty of murder

VERNON, B.C. — A guilty verdict has been delivered in a North Okanagan murder trial.

A BC Supreme Court jury convicted Howard Krewson of the second degree murder of his girlfriend Linda Stewart in 2014.

The jury deliberated for just over three hours b before reaching the verdict

Krewson showed no emotion when the verdict was read.

The 57 year old faces anywhere from 10 to 25 years in prison before he is eligible for parole, with a sentencing date to be set next week.

Justice Frank Cole asked the jury if they had a recommendation on the sentence. Eight said they had no recommendation and four said 15 years.

Second degree murder carries an automatic life sentence, with parole eligibility anywhere from 10 to 25 years.

Due to schedules of the lawyers and the judge, the sentencing may not take place until December or January.

Based on a recommendation by Crown counsel Shirley Meldrum, the judge  ordered a pre sentence report and a psychiatric risk assessment on Krewson.
