Kamloops wins bid for 2017 Special Olympics B.C. Summer Games

KAMLOOPS — Canada’s Tournament Capital won the right to host another sporting event next year. 

On Tuesday, Special Olympics B.C. awarded Kamloops with the 2017 Summer Games, which will be the biggest in its history. Over 1,300 athletes with intellectual disabilities are expected to participate in 11 summer sports the Games offers.

More than 1,200 volunteers will be needed for the Summer Games, which run from July 6-8 next year. 

Kamloops played host to the 2015 Special Olympics B.C. Winter Games.
