Charges approved against Kamloops man caught in Creep Hunters sting

VICTORIA — BC’s Criminal Justice Branch has announced the approval of four charges against the former Kamloops sheriff caught in a Kelowna Creep Hunters sting.

Charges against former Deputy Sheriff Kevin Johnston include three counts of communicating with a person believed to be underage for the purpose of facilitating a sexual offence, and one count of invitation to sexual touching.

The alleged offences took place between August 8 and August 27.

Johnston was a sheriff at the time of the alleged offences, and that’s why the Crown appointed a Special Prosecutor to look over his case.

In late August, Creep Hunters posted photos and text messages purportedly sent by Johnston to its website.

The vigilante organization claims it Johnston believed he was communcating with a 14 year old girl.
