Prosecutor submits new evidence against Sabres forward Kane

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Prosecutors continue building their case in alleging Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane was trespassing the night he is accused of harassing three women at a downtown Buffalo bar in June.

Erie County assistant district attorney Lynette Reda on Friday submitted a deposition from a Buffalo police officer stating the bar had security staffing its entrance and exit the night Kane was arrested. In handing over the deposition to Judge Barbara Johnson-Lee, Reda said it supported the evidence of trespassing.

The deposition was presented during Kane’s first appearance in Buffalo City Court since he pleaded not guilty last month to four counts of non-criminal harassment, one count of disorderly conduct and a count of misdemeanour trespass.

The 25-year-old Kane allegedly grabbed the women by the hair and neck during separate encounters inside the bar in the early hours of June 24. The trespassing charge is the most serious by legal standards, and stems from an altercation Kane allegedly had with two bouncers while he was being forcibly removed from the bar.

Kane’s next scheduled court appearance is Oct. 31.
