School zones return – except for one

KAMLOOPS — After a two month break, students and teachers across the country returned back to the classroom for the first day of school.

Classes resumed and thousand of kids in the Kamloops Thompson School District hit the books today.

School zones are now back in effect across Kamloops.

But one of the busiest and oldest school zones – around the Stuart Wood Elementary on Third Avenue and St. Paul and Battle Streets – is no longer.

Stuart Wood is now closed.

City of Kamloops Traffic Engineer Liam Baker says other than that, all school zones remain largely unchanged.

“We do tweak school zones here and there, if there is a change in the situation. For example the School of the Arts at 9th Avenue and Fraser Street we actually extended the school zones just slightly with the expansion of the school there, and having more students there,” explained Baker.
