KAMLOOPS —  Police still trying to track down a suspect following a hit and run yesterday morning that sent one person to hospital with serious injuries.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Doug Aird says yesterday morning just before 7:30, two joggers were heading northbound in the 500 block of Athabasca Street West on the Tk’emlups Reserve.

A car came up behind them, crossed the road and struck the inside jogger.

Aird says the vehicle slowed a bit but didn’t stop and eventually headed northbound.

The victim was transported to Royal Inland.

As of Monday morning, investigators said she was suffering from serious trauma to her head, ankle, and pelvis.

Early yesterday afternoon, the vehicle was found abandoned near the Halston Overpass.

It had been stolen from a North Shore residence around 5:00 AM yesterday morning.

As part of this whole investigation, police are looking to find a person of interest who was seen walking in circles on the travelled portion of the Halston Bridge about 7:45 yesterday morning.

This person was a young adult, wearing a black jacket, hood up and carrying a white back pack.

He may have been given a ride by a passerby.

Aird says they’re hoping the driver will come forward and be accountable for his actions.

Investigators are poring over surveillance footage provided by nearby businesses, including one that captured the women jogging, followed by the car passing a few moments later.

If you have any information, call the RCMP or Crimestoppers.
