BOSTON BAR, B.C. — Fire crews from Boston Bar, and North Bend spent the evening, Sunday August 21, battling a blaze near the CP rail yard.

A witness in the area, Fred Robson, told CFJC Today that the fire started shortly after lightning was spotted in the area.

Robson added the fire has destroyed one building, and damaged another – but as of 9 pm the fire appears to be under control. Officials says it also caused propane and oil tanks to explode, damaging an old church.

CP Rail Spokesperson Salem Woodrow confirms employees were evacuated from nearby CP Rail bunkhouses for a short period of time, but have since been allowed to return.
