KAMLOOPS — After a week of hot, dry, and sunny weather it appears there could be a shift this afternoon.

Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm watches for the North Thompson, Cariboo, and 100 Mile regions.

Meteorologist Lisa West said a cold front passing through those areas this afternoon could serve as a trigger for some potentially severe weather.

“The main risk for today is large hail, upwards of 15-20 mm in size,” West said. “But the other things that we can’t rule out would be strong wind gusts up to 70-90 km per hour, and also locally heavy rainfall of up to 15-20 mm per hour.”
