KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildfire Service has issued a warning to residents of the province’s Interior.

The weather forecast is calling for sunshine, heat and wind this weekend, but no lightning, so Chief Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says it’s likely the majority of fires will be human-caused.

Skrepnek adds it’s been a slow season so far, but that doesn’t mean the lack of fire activity will continue.

“We are concerned people are going to get complacent. We’ve had a relatively cool June and July, August is typically prime-time for fire activity. Given the forecast we anticipate we are going to be seeing a pretty significant increase in activity,” explained Skrepnek
