Kamloops real estate market continues to be brisk

KAMLOOPS —  More indication that we’re in a seller’s market in Kamloops as far as real estate is concerned.

A look at the July real estate figures show that 329 units sold last month, that’s a 13 percent jump from July of 2015. And not only is the volume up, but compared to July of last year, Real Estate Board President Katherine Rutherford says the average price is also up.

Rutherford says the median house price in Kamloops rose from $367,500 in July of last year to $414,000 this July. She says inventory is low for homes in that price range, but much better for homes in the $500,000 plus range.

Rutherford is anticipating the rest of the year to continue to be strong. She says there is some movement from the Coast to the Interior by residents who want something cheaper than what they’d pay in Vancouver, and enjoy the Interior lifestyle. But she says a lot of it is also people moving to this area for work.

Rutherford says July figures dropped slightly from those in June but that’s normal for the summer months, as most people have already made their housing decisions for the fall, and are taking time off during the summer to prepare for a move or take some last minute holidays.
