MERRITT, B.C. — Brian Barrett was born and raised in Merritt, and he never forgot where he came from.

He’s been involved in minor hockey in the Nicola Valley for the last 40 years. He’s the heart and soul of the Merritt Centennials. ‘Mr. Hockey in Merritt’ is the reason the Centennials are an integral part of the community.

Barrett became the team’s head coach during the 1979-80 season, and a few years later, he would become General Manager and part-owner.

On Friday night in Penticton, Barrett will have the honour of being inducted into the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame.
