Fatigue contributes to frightening highway crash

CHASE, B.C. — The occupants of a pickup truck escaped serious injury after a frightening crash on the Trans Canada Highway in Chase this morning.

RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk says just after eight o’clock, a westbound pickup truck veered across the centre line, hit a rock face and rolled back onto the highway, ending up on its roof.

Moskaluk says it appears driver fatigue played a part in this crash, and he encourages drivers to take a break when they can.

“We’ve got several beautiful pull-offs and rest stops on the highway corridor, so take advantage of those rest stops. If you feel tired, take a break for a moment or longer if need be, and it will probably assist you in getting to your destination safer.”

Moskaluk says the three men inside sustained minor injuries, and the driver was taken to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops for further assessment.

“In this case here, it didn’t impact other drivers as there was no other opposing traffic, thankfully. It could have been a very serious case, and in all likelihood a possible fatality.”
