KAMLOOPS — A fundraising drive has been launched to help a Simpcw First Nation elder who was severely injured in an accident last month.

72 year old Roy Lampreau went missing on May 16th, after heading out in the Chu Chua area to collect firewood.

Searchers found him 32 hours later, trapped beneath his truck.

A mechanical issue had caused the truck to roll over him.

Lampreau’s leg was amputated above the knee shortly after he arrived at Royal Inland Hospital, and he has remained there for recovery and rehabilitation.

His niece Jessie Lampreau says Roy will incur a lot of expenses once he gets out of the hospital.

“His house has to be motified, and so does his vehicle,” said Lampreau, adding, “He was out getting a load of wood, which was his form of income, so that has also been lost while he is getting better.”

Jessie Lampreau says Roy and his family have felt the community’s support throughout the ordeal, but there is still a long road to recovery ahead.

The family has set up a go-fund-me account to raise money for measures to support Lampreau’s recovery.
