Investigators looking into two overnight fires in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Fire investigators have a busy day ahead of them as they look into a couple of overnight fires in Kamloops.

Platoon Captain Rob Chalmers with Kamloops Fire Rescue says the first of two significant fire calls came around midnight for a structure fire in the 200 block of Nelson Ave.

A detached garage was on fire.

“Our crews did an initial attack, knocked down the fire quite quickly, and spent approximately an hour and a half after that putting out hot spots and making sure it wasn’t going to go any further,” Chalmers said.

“No cause on that one yet, our investigators will be having a look at that. Significant damage to that structure.”

Shortly after 1 a.m., as crews were cleaning up from the first fire, a second call came in for a fire on Clark St.

“Crews arrived on scene, had a fire burning inside an open carport,” Chalmers said. “Again, another quick knock down and then about an hour on scene doing overhaul there to make sure that we weren’t going to have anything further in the way of damage done there by rekindle or anything along those lines.”

The cause of both fires is under investigation.
