GREEN LAKE, B.C. —The BC Coroners Service has identified the man killed in a plane crash in the Cariboo yesterday (June 16).

He was 42 year old Jonathan Lindsay Blair of Edmonton.

Blair was a passenger in a Piper Cherokee Arrow that crashed into trees at the end of the airstrip at Green Lake, east of 70 Mile House.

Meantime, Investigators say the pilot had already touched down but was trying to abort the landing before the crash happened.

Aside from killing Blair, the crash seriously injured the pilot.

Bill Yearwood of the Transportation Safety Board says it appears the pilot was trying to land, but wasn’t satisfied with how it was going.

“The pilot was attempting a landing and touched down, but he was not comfortable with the landing and attempted to go around – in other words, abort the landing. We don’t know if he was going to try again, but he tried to abort the landing and he collided with the trees at the end of the runway,” said Yearwood.

Yearwood says it’s unclear whether the plane had the performance capabilities to clear the trees at that point in the maneuver.

“Whether he didn’t, I’m sure he tried. Whether the aircraft was capable at that point of the performance required to clear the trees, we will have to determine.”
