KAMLOOPS — An event celebrating cancer survivors and raising money for those still in the battle was held Saturday, June 11, in Kamloops.

This year’s Relay for Life celebrated more than 50 survivors.

Annual Giving Coordinator with the Canadian Cancer Society, Jennifer Harbaruk says the survivors are a testament to the effectiveness of the fundraiser.

“We know that they’re being well supported here and we know that our funds are making a dramatic difference in peoples’ lives as far as people surviving their cancer,” Harbaruk said.

“The more people out here we see in yellow shirts it makes us so thrilled because we know things are changing and we’re making a difference.”

Harbaruk adds many families are required to travel to Kelowna or Vancouver for cancer treatments.

“We provide a lot of that support money and in the last couple years we’ve spent over $200,000 dollars just in Kamloops, so it is … really needed, and the more money we can raise at Relay the more people we can support in our community,” Harbaruk said.

This was the 21st annual Relay for Life event in Kamloops.
