RCMP reminding boaters to follow floating rules

KAMLOOPS — With the weather heating up and people itching to get out on the water, Kamloops RCMP are reminding locals about boating safety.

Corporal Jodi Shelkie says before you take the boat out for the first time, be sure it hasn’t sustained any damage during winter storage.

Shelkie adds boaters should have safety gear on board, starting with a life jacket for everyone in the boat.

And she says police will be checking.

“The RCMP boat will be out on the river in a few weeks. Police officers will be checking pleasure craft to make sure they are carrying their proof of competency, and also just checking to make sure the drivers aren’t drinking,”
