Coquihalla crash claims one life near Merritt, B.C.

MERRITT, B.C. — One person has been killed following a collision on the Coquihalla Highway, 4 kilometers south of Merritt. 

RCMP, Ambulance and Fire Rescue attended the scene this morning and officials remain on scene investigating the crash, with lane closures in effect until further notice. 

"RCMP can confirm that a small car with one occupant travelling southbound up the hill out of Merritt on the Coquihalla highway ran into the rear of a broke down commercial vehicle that was pulling a flat deck trailer. The commercial vehicle was pulled off the travel portion of roadway on the right shoulder with emergency triangles placed to the rear," said Sgt. Mike Pears

Sgt. Pears notes weather and road conditions were good at the time of the collision.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The Coquihalla has been hit with a rash of recent accidents, on Friday May 27, and Sunday May 29
