Missing Armstrong Camper Not Missing After All

VERNON, B.C. — Turns out a missing hiker in the North Okanagan wasn’t missing after all, and search and rescue know exactly where he is. The man was reported overdue to return from a camping trip to Spectrum Lake by his family. 45 year old Brett Harwig was the subject of an intensive air and ground search, but it turned out his absence was the result of a technicality-literally. Apparently his signal on his spot beacon failed to get out of his area Tuesday, that’s when family members panicked and thought something had happened to him. He was camping in an area reported to have rough terrain and snow. RCMP had spotted his vehicle at the Spectrum Lake trailhead but there was no sign of a campsite. So now everyone can rest easy, including Hartwig, who is finishing up his camping trip before coming home.
