KAMLOOPS — Many in Kamloops have connections to Fort McMurray and the disaster that struck the city this month.

A fundraiser is being held Saturday at the Alliance Church in Kamloops to support Fort McMurray and fire relief efforts there.

Colleen Vanderhorst says the event is a great opportunity for Kamloops to support those affected.

"It's a fundraiser because a number of the individuals have connections to people who live in Fort Mac and work in the oil sands," Vanderhorst said.

"They've been really touched by the disaster that has happened there so they decided to put this together to raise money. It is sanctioned by the Red Cross."

The event is called the Fort Mac Attack Show and Shine Fundraiser, and it's presented by Sidewys Sector and CopStops Kamloops.

There will be a food truck at the event as well as door prizes, a DJ, and cars on display.

The fundraiser began at 10 a.m. Saturday and wraps up at 5:30 p.m..
