VANCOUVER — The British Columbia Real Estate Association says the number of homes sold in the province was up 30 per cent last month over April of last year.

It says a record 12,969 homes were sold across the province while $9.64 billion changed hands, up more than 50 per cent.

The real estate association reports the average price of a home in B.C. neared $744 thousand last month, a 17 per cent hike in one year.

It credits exceptionally strong housing demand across southern B.C. as well as strong employment growth.
