KAMLOOPS — St. Ann’s Academy was locked down for a short time during the noon hour today, after a psychiatric patient at Royal Inland Hospital fled the emergency department.

RCMP say the lockdown lasted all of 15 minutes before the man was located and returned to the hospital.

Constable Jason Epp says the lockdown decision was made because when the man left, he was seen walking in the direction of the school.

Even so, Epp says he doesn’t believe the man posed a risk to students or staff.
