Heavy-footed Kamloops drivers lighter in the wallet

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a crackdown on speeders last Friday left a lot of heavy-footed drivers lighter in the wallet.

Mounties issued 38 tickets for speeding in separate operations on Halston Avenue and Westsyde Road.

Corporal Jodi Shelkie says the traffic sweep follows from one of the main priorities touted by Kamloops residents at last month’s community forums.

“Citizens are concerned about traffic in the community. We just wanted to let people know that we are out there. This is a healthy warning that we are going to be out there in the future conducting different projects on impaired driving, on speeding, and on distracted driving,” said Shelkie.

In addition to the 38 speeding tickets, officers handed out two tickets for excessive speeding.

One driver was clocked at 118 kilometers per hour in a 70 zone, and the other at 100 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone.
