Two airlifted to hospital following accident near Salmon Arm

SALMON ARM, B.C. — Two people are in hospital after an accident near Salmon Arm this morning. 

The accident happened on Highway 1 near Third Nations Road at approximately 7:30 am. A vehicle had swerved across the centerline, gone into the ditch and hit a tree. 

An elderly man and woman were injured. The BC Ambulance helicopter evacuated the female driver to Royal Inland hospital while the male passenger was taken to Shuswap Lake General Hospital by ambulance. 

RCMP believe there may have been a medical emergency before the accident happened. 

Speed and alcohol were not factors.
