High water warning for Nicola Lake

MERRITT, B.C. — The province has issued a warning for residents around Nicola Lake and its outflowing Nicola River, thanks to higher levels and greater volumes of water.

According to a news release, the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations has been allowing more water out of the lake through its dam, in an effort to make room for expected spring runoff.

The ministry says thanks to rapid snowmelt and last Friday’s rainstorm, the lake is at full supply, but is expected to keep rising for the next week to 10 days.
