KAMLOOPS — The first of two public forums hosted by the Kamloops RCMP detachment will take place tonight, April 19.

Corporal Jodi Shelkie says there are a pair of purposes for the meetings.

Shelkie says the first is to convey information about how the detachment operates in the city.

But she adds the RCMP also want to hear from the public.

“We’ve looked at what crime stats there are right now. We have spoke to city council, and asked them what their priorities are for the city,” explained Shelkie who added “we want to know from the citizens, what they consider policing priorities in their neighbourhood, what is important to them, so we can add it to our annual performance plan and work towards putting it as a police priority as well.”

Tonight’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 at the McArthur Island Lounge.

The second forum will take place Thursday evening, April 21, from 7 to 8:30 at the Hal Rogers Centre in Albert McGowan Park.
