Wildfire pops up near 70 Mile House

70 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — Wildfire crews are rushing to assess a new wildfire near the Bonaparte recreation site southeast of 70 Mile House.

The blaze was reported earlier today and is burning in grassland and open forest.

Officials estimate the blaze at about 20 hectares in size, and smoke is visible from 70 Mile House, Chasm and Loon Lake.

An initial response includes four firefighters in a helicopter, and more crews are expected to be dispatched shortly.
