Kamloops Sports Council names 2015 award winners

KAMLOOPS — A football player and a speed skater were named the Kamloops athletes of the year at the Sport Council Awards and Hall of Fame banquet Saturday night.

Kamloops Broncos record setting receiver Derek Yachison is the male athlete of the year.

Yachison has signed with the B.C. Lions and will be attending training camp in Kamloops in June.

Female athlete of the year is Sara Spence.

Spence won six medals at the 2015 Canada Winter Games, took silver at the junior nationals and was B.C. Speed Skatings athlete of the year.

Pakhomenko university athlete, Joe Hicketts won the international award, master athlete went to Peter Findlay and the Corryn Brown rink was named the team of the year.
