KAMLOOPS — A local Kamloops man suffering from ALS, has received a prestigious award from the ALS Society of BC.

Rick Dunbar has been honoured with the 2016 Exceptional Public Awareness Program Award, for his work in raising funds and awareness, around ALS. Dunbar was diagnosed in August of 2013, since then, he has dedicated his life to creating awareness around the debilitating disease, and being an advocate for others facing the illness head-on.

“We have care aide people coming in and it’s amazing how many of them ask what happens, nobody knows, I’ve lived it and I know what it is, and I’m still living it, it’s a disease that knocks you off your feet and eventually does you in, but in the meantime, let’s make it aware to everybody, that’s my goal,” says Rick Dunbar.
