ARMSTRONG, B.C. — A 25 year old man is fighting for his life in Vernon Jubilee Hospital after suffering serious burn injuries from an shock at an Armstrong BC Hydro sub-station last (Thursday) night.

RCMP were called to the station on Smith Drive around 8:10 p.m. to reports of a transformer fire.

Constable Jocelyn Noseworth says the man was found inside the fenced compound and it doesn’t appear he purposely set the fire.

“We have no indication that he started a fire, so I am not sure what the nature of that would be but I don’t think it was intentionally set by any means.”

Noseworth says RCMP and fire officials found the man suffering from significant burns.

“We know he isn’t an employee. He had no lawful reason for being inside that sub-station and that station is fenced.  We are investigating why but we aren’t certain at this time.”

Police don’t know if drugs or alcohol were involved, but are investigating if this may have been a possible copper theft attempt.

“That is something that has happened in past and it will be part of our investigation, but at this time we aren’t certain why he was in there.”

Power to nearly 8-thousand homes in Armstrong, Spallumcheen, Vernon and Enderby was lost for 3 hours before Hydro got the electricity back on shortly after midnight.
