KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has joined its voice to the City of Kamloops in requesting a federal panel review for the proposed KGHM-Ajax copper-gold mine.

The district's Board of Directors passed the motion requesting the panel review at its meeting this afternoon.

Even so, Board Chair John Ranta says he knows the federal environment minister has heard the request before from the city.

"I'm reasonably comfortable that the minister has considered the request previously, and it remains to be seen how she deals with the request coming from the TNRD," said Ranta.

Meantime, it turns out Environment Minister Catherine McKenna will not be coming to Kamloops to survey the Ajax mine site later this month.

Instead, her staffers will attend.
