B.C. politician says tests found high lead levels in water at legislature

VICTORIA — An independent member of British Columbia’s legislative assembly says tests reveal water at the 119-year-old legislature building has lead levels more than five times higher than provincial and federal limits.

Vicki Huntington says she was prompted to test the water after complaints about its quality from staff, and recent reports of high lead levels in northern B.C. schools.

Huntington is calling on the government to test water quality in all aging public buildings across the province.

She says that includes school because parents need to know that the water their children drink is safe.
