Suspicious fire at Merritt Secondary School

MERRITT, B.C. — The Nicola-Similkameen School District has some unexpected school repairs to make after a fire at Merritt Secondary School on February 23rd.

Merritt Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson says the fire was ignited in a small room outside of the main office.

Tomkinson says the sprinkler system took care of the fire, and the cause has not been found.

"To be determined, very little fire damage, but quite siginifiant water damage" said Tomkinson.

He adds the blaze may have been started intentionally.

"It's beleived that the fire is suspicious at this time, and the RCMP are investigating."
