KAMLOOPS —  The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission is projecting a strong year ahead for the local film industry, with several productions on the horizon.

WATCH: Local film industry heats up

3 productions have signed on to film in the Kamloops and surrounding areas, 2 larger U.S. productions and one smaller-budget Canadian film. One of the projects is already prepping, another will start shooting in mid-April, and the smaller-scale film is scouting locations, to begin production this summer. Vicki Weller of the Thompson-Nicola Film Commission says while it’s a competitive market, the desert and grasslands that Kamloops has to offer is unique, and can’t be replicated in the Lower Mainland.

“Certainly our desert is always liked and Kamloops as a city we may have a project that’ll actually use the city, we’re always been shooting around it, that might be coming up, when they show up I know it’s going. Usually Cache Creek, Ashcroft, again the landcapes, the openness of it, that’s what lures productions there. But we also have some commercials that want some specific looks, we pitch the Clearwater area, Barrier area, there was location requests for Lytton just the other,” says Weller.

A call for extras actors for the upcoming productions, will be put out closer to the start of filming. You can visit www.filmthompsonnicola.com for more information.
