ABBOTSFORD — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball found themselves on the short end of both of their Canada West basketball games in Abbotsford this weekend.

After falling 57-56 on Friday (Feb 12) to the host University of Fraser Valley Cascades, the WolfPack dropped a 60-46 decision to Fraser Valley on Saturday.

The Cascades outscored TRU 25-13 in the third quarter and led by as many as 20 points at one point.

The WolfPack fall to 13-5 while Fraser Valley moves to 11-7 and holds a one game lead over UBCO Heat in the battle for third place in the Explorer Division. TRU is two games back of the front running MacEwan University Griffins (15-3).

“We had a better night offensive rebounding but couldn’t make the easy shots,” lamented WolfPack head coach Scott Reeves.  “UFV played with purpose all weekend and we couldn’t match that intensity.”

Fraser Valley led 30-23 at the half. They had three players in double figures led by Shayna Cameron with 18. Katie Brink and Kayli Satori chipped in with 14 points apiece.

TRU had no player in double figureds. Their high scorer was Kassie Colonna (4th year, forward, Invermere, BC) who had nine points and 11 rebounds. Jordan MacLean (4th year, forward, Hinton, AB) had 12 rebounds and six points.   Taiysa Worsfold (5th year, guard, Kamloops, BC) chipped in with eight points.

The WolfPack close out their regular season next weekend (Feb 19-20) on the Warner Rentals Court against the UBCO Heat.  On Saturday night (Feb 20), the team will honor their graduating players: Worsfold, Colonna, Sarah Malate (guard, Calgary, AB) and Jenna Quinton (guard, Calgary, AB).

Tip off for game one on Friday night (Feb 19) will be 6 pm at the Tournament Capital Centre.
