KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University unveiled its new Tier Two Canada Research Chair.

Dr. Courtney Mason was selected by his peers to the designation, and his appointment means the university will receive 100-thousand dollars in research grants annually for the next five years.

Mason says his research focuses on impacts of the displacement of parks and protected areas – but doesn’t stop there.

“I am also interest in what our communities are doing particularly in rural areas of the country to adapt to some of the significant changes that they’re facing in everything from global movements like climate change and food security issues to local socio-economic development,” said Mason.

Mason’s appointment is the first Canada Research Chair for TRU’s Faculty of Adventure, Culinary Arts and Tourism, and Dean Robert Hood says he is not aware of any other research chairs in Canada in the field of tourism.
