SUN PEAKS, B.C. — A family of 6 is safe after going out of bounds at Sun Peaks Resort.

Search and Rescue officials from Kamloops were dispatched to the area, but stood down before reaching the area as they were notified the group made it out.

President and Executive Director of Tourism Sun Peaks Christopher Nicolson told CFJC Today the family knowingly went out of bounds on the West side of the resort.

The group of six were plucked from the hill by an RCMP helicopter manned in part by a Search and Rescue volunteer.

The group from the lower mainland consisted of 2 adults and 4 children, the children ranged in age from 6 to 13 .

Now that family is trying to make good.

Alan Hobler of Kamloops Search and Rescue says he has been in contact with the father.

“[He is] very shy and apologetic, obviously he is aware he made a terrible mistake ducking under the ropes there, I can guarantee you that is never going to happen with him again and he is trying to make amends, both with Sun Peaks and with us here also, [he] indicated he is going to make a donation to Kamloops Search and Rescue,” said Hobler.
