CHASE, B.C. — Highway 1 is currently closed in both directions after a fatal motor vehicle incident 2 kilometres east of Chase.

Chase Fire Chief Brian Lauzon says his crew is currently on site of a motorbike versus semi vehicle incident on Highway 1.

Lauzon says there is front end damage to the semi, though the driver is uninjured.

He says the motorbike is a total write-off.

Chase RCMP confirm the operator of the motorbike was killed.

Lauzon says,"road conditions seemed to be O.K. There is gravel on the highway but there is no snow or ice."

Chief Lauzon could not comment on the cause of the incident.

Motorists can use Highway 97 as an alternate route, or Highways 97A or 97B.

The estimated time of reopening is between 3pm and 5pm.
