CHASE, B.C. — A Chase family escaped safely after their home was heavily damaged by fire yesterday.

Fire Chief Brian Lauzon says crews were called to the Brooke Drive home at about 4:20 yesterday afternoon.

When they arrived, they found a large fire in the home's attic.

Firefighters knocked it down quickly, but Lauzon says the roof was destroyed and the rest of the home will likely need to be gutted due to extensive water damage.

Lauzon says no one was injured. "There were three occupants at the time. They could hear noises and smell some odours, but they were not sure where it was coming from until they found out it was coming from the attic, and then they called us."

Lauzon adds no definitive cause was discovered because damage was too extensive.
