Improved communication sought after drug overdoses

KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops street outreach worker is calling for more communication between emergency responders and social agencies in order to prevent overdoses.

Ken Salter of ASK Wellness says there have been rumours of a spike in overdose deaths recently, but that can’t be confirmed.

He notes if social agencies had more information about the potential of spiked drugs on the street, they could put the warning out.

“One thing that we would like to see happen is some form of communication from the hospital and/or the RCMP so that when they get a number of overdoses, whether they are fatal or not, when they get a spike in them we would like to know just so that we can be more aggressive with our warnings on the street,” said Salter.
